Nokia 8 Sirocco features and specs
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is a luxurious phone and a throwback of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco that came out in 2006. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is Nokia’s flagship smartphone that is meant to take on some of the best-selling phones from the biggest companies out there.
|Display||5.5 inch 18:9 2K OLED display|
|Processor||Octa-core 2.45 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor|
|RAM||6GB of RAM|
|Storage||128GB of storage (expandable via microSD)|
|Rear camera||12MP and 13MP telephoto rear cameras|
The Nokia 8 Sirocco has an aspect ratio of 16:9. The phone comes with a 2K pOLED (plastic OLED) display that curves to join the metal frame on the sides of the device.The curved display is not new, it is something we have seen with the Galaxy S6,S7,S8 and S9. The Nokia 8 Sirocco measures 140.9 x 73 mm and it is 7.5mm thin making if feel comfortable in the hand.The phone glossy rear makes it a fingerprint magnet which is something to note but it can always be cleaned out. The phone comes with a dual camera set up at the back and a fingerprint sensor.
The phone has a USB-C port at the bottom, a loudspeaker,a primary mic but sadly no headphone jack,the phone comes with a USB-C to 3.5 mm dongle instead. The Nokia Sirocco comes with wireless charging and has the ability to charge to 50% in 30 minutes.The phone is IP67 dust and water resistance which is something that most flagship phones have. The phone comes in black.
The phone is powered by last year’s flagship processor the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, instead of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor that powers all the flagship smartphones of 2018. The Snapdragon 835 processor is found on other phones like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus,Galaxy Note 8,Google Pixel 2 & Pixel 2 XL so this processor delivers impressive performance despite it being somehow “old”. The Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with 6GB of RAM which is meant to chew everything that you throw at it.
The phone runs on stock Android 8.1 Oreo with no customizations and no bloatware just pure android. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is an Android one smartphone meaning you will get 3 years worth of security updates and two years worth of OS upgrades from the time the phone was launched.
The phones come with 128 GB of internal storage which to me is a good design choice considering the storage is not expandable. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is Integrated with a 3260 mAh battery which can easily go a whole day with no problem.The phone has wireless charging and the ability to charge 50% in 30 minutes.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco packs a dual camera setup with 12-megapixel wide-angle camera (f/1.7 aperture) and a 13-megapixel telephoto camera with Zeiss optics at the back. It has a 5 megapixel front-facing camera.The phone comes with Pro mode which lets you take control of every image, manually adjusting white balance, focusing, ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation separately.
The phone is around Ksh 75,000 depending on where your getting it from.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is an expensive smartphone that delivers very well. Despite the Android One support, interesting design and a great battery life, I can’t really recommend Nokia 8 Sirocco. With a phone like the OnePlus 6 which you get at a cheaper price and with even more features the Nokia Sirocco is for a hardcore Nokia fan.
