The new Nokia phones for 2018: Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1

HMD global has unveiled the latest line of Nokia phones they first started with the Nokia 6.1 which is a fantastic phone check out the review here. The Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 are the successor of the Nokia 2, Nokia 3, and Nokia 5 which are nice budget phones to have.

The new Nokia 2.1

The Nokia 2.1 comes loaded with major improvements. The new Nokia 2 has a 5.5-inch 720p display  which is quite large compared to its its predecessor which has a 5-inch panel. The Nokia 2.1 comes running on  Android Oreo (Go edition)  much like the Nokia 1. The Phone comes packed with a 4,000 mAh battery thats going to last for almost 2 days. The battery size is similar to the previous model.

The Nokia 2.1 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor that should be enough to run most of the daily tasks. It comes with 1GB of RAM along with 8GB of internal storage which is a huge disappointment but its expandable to upto 128GB via a microSD slot. The phone comes with a 8MP autofocus camera with LED flash on the rear and a 5MP fixed focus camera on the front. The Nokia 2.1 dimensions are 153.6 x 77.6 x 9.67 mm and it weighs 174g. The phone will be available in four colors: blue, copper/blue, silver/grey and silver. The phone is expected to land in the markets in July with a $115 price tag thats around KSH 12000.

The new Nokia 3.1

The Nokia 3.1 is part of the Android one program meaning it will be getting monthly security updates and OS updates for up to 2 years this is a huge step up from the previous Nokia 3.The Nokia 3.1 has an 18:9 aspect ratio and it comes with a 5.2-inch 720p LCD Gorilla Glass display. The new nokia 3 comes packed with a  2,990mAh battery which might last for a whole day depending on the usage. The phone does not come with first charging.

Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1

The Nokia 3.1 is available in two variants :

  •  2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory
  • 3GB RAM and 32GB  internal memory

Both variants come with expandable storage of up to 128GB. The Nokia 3.1 comes with MediaTek 6750 1.5GHz processor which the company claims is 30% faster than the original Nokia 3. The phone has a 13MP rear camera and a 8MP front-facing shooter with a wide field of view for better selfies and NFC support. The phone is expected to arrive in June costing around $160(Ksh 17000) for the 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage and about $200(Ksh 21000) for the 3GB  RAM and 32GB storage.The phone will be available in three color options: Blue/Copper, Black/Chrome and White/Iron.

The new Nokia 5.1

The Nokia 5.1 comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen and an 18:9 aspect ratio, the Nokia 5.1 is made from a single block of 6000 series aluminum giving is a solid build quality.It measures 151.1 x 70.73 x 8.27 mm, the phone comes with a 2,970mAh battery which is non-removable also something to note is that the battery has been reduced compared its predecessor which has 3,000mAh.

Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1

The new Nokia 5 has a 16MP back camera with a LED flash and an 8MP front camera that features a 84.6 degree wide-angle lens.The Nokia 5.1 is powered by a MediaTek MT6755S octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz compared to last years snapdragon 430.The fingerprint sensor is now at the back of the phone.

The Nokia 5.1 is available in two variants :

  •  2GB RAM and 16GB internal memory
  • 3GB RAM and 32GB  internal memory

The phone comes in three color options Copper, Tempered Blue and Black. The Nokia 5.1 is expected to be available on sale in July.

Conclusion

The new Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 are great entry level phones considering they are budget friendly and the build quality is that of true Nokia phones.
